Anoka County Purchasing Land for a Park

State legislature approved a bill for millions to purchase 550 acres of property for park purposes along the Rum River. The funding will come from sales tax revenues. If the sale goes through the county plans to create a conservation area rather than an active park. The 550 acres includes wetland, crop land, marsh & more. The county will add some trails, fishing platforms and a parking lot. The county has also applied for a grant to help fulfill the restoration's estimated cost of $116,000. Bridge to Terabithia

The Lyric Arts in Anoka will be performing Bridge to Terabitha June 5th through June 20th. The story is about a young boy & his friend who create a secret kindom called Terabithia where they rule and fight against enemies. It is an amazing story about friendship and imagination. Brush Fire in Andover

A large brush fire northwest of Bunker Lake Boulevard and 7th Avenue has caused fifty homes to be evacuated. Firefighters have been working since this afternoon to tame the flames. They are still searching for the cause of the fire. If you have any information as to the cause of the fire call the arson hotline at 1-800-723-2020.

Anoka Approved a Downtown Archery Range

Average Joe’s Archery, located at  1922 First Avenue is scheduled to open June 1st. There will be a six lane, 20-foot archery range where Joe's Archery plans to host shooting leagues and retail space where hunting accessories will be sold.The grand opening is planned for Saturday, June 6th.

The Fridley Recreation Department has an affordable, all day program to assure working families the opportunity to participate in what makes summer vacation the most magical time of the year. ROCKS is all about learning, exploring, adventure, creativity, friendships, and most of all FUN!

The program meets from 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday at the Fridley Community Center (6085 7th Street NE) June 15 - August 21 (excluding July 13-17).
