ST. PAUL -- Local police and the Minnesota State Patrol stopped more than 10,000 cars and issued more than 7,000 speeding tickets during its HEAT campaign.

Minnesota agencies reported traffic stops and tickets in June and July as part of their Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) campaign.

Over 2,800 citations were issued for non-speeding violations, like DWI. Minneapolis and St. Paul stood out on the report, with more than 5,600 traffic stops with than half of those drivers cited for illegal speed.
