Blaine’s annual evening of crime prevention awareness festivities has taken a new name, although the purpose, goal and date – Tuesday, Aug. 4 – remain unchanged.

Night to Unite, a program of the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association (MCPA), will replace National Night Out, an event operated by the National Association of Town Watch. Despite the name change, the first Tuesday of every August will nevertheless continue as an enjoyable night of activities and fun identical to years past, maintaining a focus on crime prevention and building a strong, safe community.

According to the MCPA, Minnesota’s Night to Unite encourages law enforcement and communities to strengthen neighborhoods and build strong communities by getting to know one another and forging strong community partnerships.

The MPCA is a statewide, non-profit organization of citizens, law enforcement officers and crime prevention practitioners who work together to promote, develop and advance crime prevention.
